One of the goals of Verona C.H.I.L.D. is to provide a forum for parents, teachers, and administrators to learn together and work hand-in-hand to bridge the gap between special and general education. Toward this effort, we present workshops dealing with special education topics and donate teaching tools and equipment to the elementary, middle and high schools to help enhance special education classrooms.
Each year, we also invite teaching staff from all schools to apply for a mini grant that would enhance the learning environment for special education students. (The grant could provide a secondary benefit to general education students within the classroom.)
2018-2019 Mini Grants
The total amount of mini grants for the 2018-2019 school year was $2300. To qualify for the award, the staff member had to submit an application that described the item(s) requested, how those items would be used in the classroom environment and why they would be beneficial. C.H.I.L.D. was proud to award the following mini grants:
- $150 to Ms. Diana Conboy and Ms. Stephanie Heard from F.N. Brown Elementary for reimbursement to enter the Speech students in the event Gingerbread Wonderland 2018 at Frelinghuysen Arboretum
- $400 to Ms. Linda Wangger from Laning Elementary for the purchase of a 2017 Apple iPad (32G with WiFi) with strong protective cover.
- $500 to Ms. Dana Moon from F.N. Brown Elementary for the purchase of High Interest Books Encouraging Critical Thinking for the Special Education Classroom Library.
